Benefits
offered to NJPHA Members:
Political Lobby/Professional Representation
The Association employs the services of a political lobyist who
serves as our representative for state and federal government
issues. This political lobbyist is the voice of NJPhA to our legislators
and tracks all current and potential bills, ensuring they support
pharmacy and NJPhA policies.
Information Distribution
- Rapid information across state – Immediate e-mail notification
of urgent news or events to officers and members.
- Journal/Newsbriefs – Either publication is distributed
monthly. Contains any significant news of the Association, including
upcoming events, members in the news, messages from the President
and CEO, Committee news, Annual Convention highlights, news
from the local Colleges of Pharmacy, Legislative news, and regular
features, such as Consultant’s Corner and free Pharmacists
Continuing Education.
- Access to the NJPhA Web Site – Our new web site includes
general information about the Association and an exclusive Members
Only section. Included are: important messages, upcoming events,
meeting notices, component and committee information, legislative
updates, employment opportunities, student section, chat room,
hotlines and links to related healthcare organizations.
Networking Opportunities
With membership to NJPhA come many opportunities for networking
with colleagues:
- Through Component Membership - All members of NJPhA affiliate
with their County Society and/or the New Jersey Academy of Consultant
Pharmacists, and these groups hold regular meetings.
- Through Committee involvement – Members have opportunities
to participate in several committees including: Membership,
Professional Affairs, Government Affairs, Permanent Organization,
House of Delegates, Awards or Convention Committees.
- Through Continuing Education Seminars – Live Continuing
Education opportunities are offered at the State level and through
Components.
- Through Annual Convention attendance – Which includes
pharmacists and others who represent all areas of pharmacy practice,
from Retail, Hospital, Consultant, Government, and Industry,
featuring top speakers on timely and relevant topics, vendors
from major drug companies and related industries, and legislators.
Continuing Education
- Free Continuing Education is offered in our Journal.
- Live programs are available at the State level and through
Components – HIPAA compliance training is now available.
- Online opportunities are available through the NJPhA Web
Site.
- Lunch and Learn – The Association brings Continuing
Education to the workplace environment for pharmacists in industry.
Scholarships
A scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding Pharmacy student
member of the Association. Information about other scholarship
opportunities through other sources is also available through
the students section of the NJPhA Web Site.
Specialty Academies/Certifications
- For Consultant Pharmacists – Any NJPhA member may join
the New Jersey Academy of Consultant Pharmacists, a specialty
component of the Association. Courses leading to certification
for consultant pharmacists are also available through the Association.
Certified Consultant Pharmacists also have representation on
the New Jersey Joint Board for Certification of Consultant Pharmacists.
- Other Specialty Academies, including a Pharmacy Technicians
Academy, are planned for the future.
Impaired Pharmacists Support
The Association liaisons with a support group established by the
State of New Jersey, Board of Pharmacy and the University of Utah
School of Pharmacy for pharmacists with drug or alcohol addictions.
Liaison with other Organizations
New Jersey Society of Health-System Pharmacists (NJSHP), the New
Jersey Department of Health and Human Services and the New Jersey
Board of Pharmacy on pharmacy issues in New Jersey. The NJPhA
is also the local affiliate of the following national pharmacy
organizations: American Pharmacists Association (APhA), National
Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) and the American Society
of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP). Together with other state or
national pharmacy or related organizations, NJPhA exchanges information
and collaborates with these groups on legislative issues and projects
of mutual concern or interest. NJPhA is now working with the Board
of Pharmacy on licensure reciprocation issues.
Volunteer Network/Hotline
- NJPhA is creating a help network/hotline for pharmacists
and consumers on issues such as Medicaid, legal problems, insurance,
HIPAA, etc., to be staffed by volunteer retired pharmacists.
- The Association has also been involved in establishing a
network of volunteer pharmacists trained to assist in a bioterrorism
or nuclear catastrophe, as in the recent anthrax scare.
Access to Group Benefits
Members of the Association enjoy access to group benefits such
as credit cards, health insurance, including long-term care health
insurance, and malpractice insurance, all at lower fees or interest
rates.
